Styling/Maintenance

Let’s Talk Maintenance: Hair extensions aren’t receiving the same nutrients as the hair on your scalp. Hair care maintenance is essential! Treat your extensions as you would your own hair.

Can Manes by Monae Hair Be Colored? Yes, it can be colored however we do advise that you use a professional colorist that specializes in coloring hair extensions. Even though the hair can be colored, Manes by Monae does not guarantee the outcome of your hair. Once the hair is chemically altered incorrectly, the cuticle can become damaged and overexposed causing fraying, breakage, dryness, and tangling. This, in turn, will affect the overall look and feel of your hair. Chemical damage has no reverse button.

Texture/Color Disclaimer: Manes by Monae extensions are separated into three categories: straight, wavy and curly. Each bundle is from a distinct individual, each one has its own specific and unique characteristics. Though very similar, no two bundles are the exact same in texture and pattern. As we try our best to pair the most alike bundles together, it’s possible to receive bundles that are moderately different in color shade and texture. All hair (except colored bundles) comes in its natural off black to medium light brown shades. We do try our best to pair bundles with similar patterns and color shades however, it’s not a guarantee you’ll receive the exact same bundles in color and or texture.

Weft Disclaimer: Any hair that has been manufactured and stitched onto a weft will experience minimum shedding. Sewing through the wefts may cause the wefts to loosen, unravel, and shed excessively. To keep your wefts in good condition and reusable, we suggest sewing around the wefts. In addition, putting weft sealer adhesive on each end of the wefts to help prevent shedding.

Can I Cut My Wefts? Manes will last longer if the wefts are not cut. If you need to cut your weft, we recommend sealing the ends so the hair will not shed at the point of cut.

Can I Straighten or Curl My Hair? Your hair extensions can be treated as if it is your own hair. You are able to use a thermal tool to straighten, curl, crimp, etc. Heat damage can cause breakage and dryness. Therefore, it is imperative that you use a heat-protecting product.

What Does Co-Wash Mean? Co-washing simply means conditioner washing. It is a key task in extending the life of your extensions and keeping them healthy. We recommend a co-wash once a week with a conditioner to ensure your hair
gets the nutrients and moisture it needs. When you first receive your extensions, it is important to co-wash the hair. It has been through my hands, packaging, etc. Always use WARM water, as hot water will overexpose the cuticle of the hair.

Lets talk curlier/kinkier hair: Curlier/Kinkier textures require moisture and detangling. Curly/kinkier hair has shrinkage. Stretch hair to see longest state.

Does Manes by Monae Shed? There is minimal shedding. No hair is absolutely perfect! The most effective way to avoid shedding is by sealing the wefts. Shedding disclaimer: Shedding is normal as the constructed wefts are stitched on a man made track. A product that can be used to prevent this is Weft Sealer. Tips: Be sure to use the correct tools when styling your hair. Wide tooth combs are recommended for combing and detangling.

What inch should I get my Closure/Frontal: Make sure your frontal/closure is 2-4 inches longer than your bundle.

How many bundles to use with a frontal (13x4 or 13x6.)

8”-14” (2 Bundles)

Product FAQ

Will my bundles shed? Technically all hair sheds, even from our head. The shedding of hair from the bundles is minimal with proper care.

How long does curl pattern last? Our wigs are steamed to get the curl pattern it has without processing the hair in order to keep the integrity of the bundle or unit. With that said, the more it is washed, styled, and curled the curl pattern will slightly drop over time.

What Type of Hair Does Manes by Monae Carry? Manes by Monae sells 100% virgin hair, meaning that is has not been chemically processed. Certain textures are steam processed for curl or wave patterns; however, this process does not involve chemicals. Manes by Monae also sells raw virgin hair. This hair is unprocessed and collected from one donor.

How Many Ounces Come in A Bundle? Approximately 3.5 oz.

How Many Bundles Are Needed to Complete A Full Sew-In? Determining how many bundles to purchase depends on the lengths you are wanting. The longer bundles have a shorter weft/track as the shorter bundles have longer wefts/tracks. For a full sew in using 12”-16” bundles we recommend two bundles to complete a full sew-in (depending upon the circumference/size of your head.) If using 18”-22” bundles you will need three or more bundles to complete a full sew-in (depending upon the circumference/size of your head.) If using 24” bundles and longer you will need four or more bundles.

Info on Closures: Our Closures are semi pre-plucked and free part. They do not come pre-bleached. Our standard 4x4 closures come in the standard Swiss lace in medium brown. Lace cannot be dyed. It can only be tinted to a darker tone of color. If you are looking for a lighter lace, we have transparent and hd closures available

The difference between the transparent closure and the lace closure is the end result. The transparent closure will give you more of a natural hairline vs the standard closure. The standard is for medium-brown skin tone and transparent is used for lighter skin tone, which can be tinted darker if needed. Transparent is our standard lace in a transparent color, while HD is a thinner and more delicate construction that gives you more of a natural look. They are both transparent. Front vs Full lace wig (Versatility and Price): A lace front wig is cheaper due to that fact that it is not as versatile as full lace wig. It does not have lace all the way around, which does not allow a full ponytail. I suggest choosing which lace you prefer according to the look you are trying to achieve.

Can I apply Heat? Yes, heat can be applied to these wigs for styling.

Will you be able to see my lace? Yes your lace will be visible. Lace isn’t meant to be skin nor will it look or feel like it. You can camouflage it but it will still be lace. There is no such thing as an invisible lace. Tinting lace will help with making it look as scalp like as possible.

What are these dark knots on my lace? These are knots! Knots are the ties between the hair strands and the lace. To make wigs look natural you can bleach them to match your skin tone. However, this process will weaken the knots and increase shedding.

What lace tints the best?

  • Transparent lace can be tinted to any complexion. Transparent refers to the material.
  • Swiss lace can blend into scalp well however it is still detectable.
  • HD Lace is soft. It can easily tear. Can melt to skin easily. Not durable and is very high maintenance. HD is known for being thin and undetectable.
